What does it mean to descend? To come into our bodies? For thousands of years we’ve been going “up and out” not “down and in” - a reflection of the dominant masculine paradigm we’ve been living in. However, we are moving into a time where "Holy Mother" is making herself known again, revealing herself to the hearts and minds of those who are ready and willing to receive her teachings. The great erasure of the feminine is over, "Holy Mother" is rising and helping us awaken to the next phase of our collective evolution, in which the feminine AND masculine come together in union.
For too long, we’ve been told that "Holy Mother," deriving from the same root as matter, or that which is of this earth, is dirty, sinful and less-than. When we recognize we are made of the earth, we can begin to humbly repair the desecration of the feminine by honoring our own matter - our bodies. Through the study of nature, we can choose to mimic the earth's seasonality, and begin to come into right relationship with our living, breathing biotechnology. As we attune our bodies to nature, and reduce the amount of stimuli we consume, we often recognize we’ve been vibrating out of sync with earth’s natural rhythms.
This time of year between Samhain and Winter Solstice everything in nature is dying. Life force is directed down and in as the earth descends into darkness. The trees are letting go of their leaves, the grass is yellowing, and the herbaceous plants are decaying. This “dying window” is our opportunity to slow down, take a deep breath and allow ourselves to exhale. Our exhale mirrors the collective dying process that’s happening all around us. When we consciously bring our awareness into the vastness of our bodies’ depths we will find that our bodies have a lot to share. This time of year they might request more stillness, slower movements, and deeper sleep. When we ignore these requests or even fight them, we confuse our biology. We are of the earth, we understand that the earth needs to cycle, we feel this in our bones, we would never attempt to prevent an animal from hibernating or scorn a flower for dropping her petals, so why would we do this with our own bodies?
It is possible to share an intimacy with our body that is unparalleled to any other relationship we will ever have. It is a deep pleasure to be alive in this animal body with the ability to engage all our senses and interact with the world around us. If we, indeed, center this, and treat our bodies like a beloved animal, one we unconditionally love, it would be impossible to engage with the insanity of the false matrix that goes against every biological rhythm we have.
In this "dying window" my body is telling me to “be quiet, listen, and dream with the earth as she slumbers...” This is a precious time, one that I know many of us deeply crave. All around me, I see people desiring relief from the chaos of modernity. It is time to honor "Holy Mother," matter, our earth-bodies.
How can we honor our seasonality in the here and now? In doing so, can we demonstrate just a little more love for our animal bodies? When we do, trust me, our bodies will respond in kind, and we do our part to help "Holy Mother" rise again.
